Organic Nordic Beauty Birch Sap is a genuine and pure natural product. It is collected directly from the trees and immediately frozen. The collection and production methods of Nordic Beauty Birch Sap do not include any heat treatment, whereby the original characteristics of the birch sap remain unchanged.
Birch sap tapping is an ancient tradition in Finland. At exactly the right moment at the beginning of spring, for a limited time, sap rushes up from the roots to the branches to provide nourishment to produce leaves for the springtime. This is when the trees can be tapped and the sap extracted. Colder climates are favorable for birch sap production. Because it can only be produced in countries with the right climate, it is a relatively rare, high-end, high-quality product. People in Finland have used the sap locally and traditionally for centuries.

Nordic Beauty Birch Sap comes from our own forests and can be classified as “Millésime”, like wines. Depending on the region, climate conditions can limit the birch sap production. Some winters can be colder than others, and this has an effect to the quality of birch sap and especially to the quantity of it. The longer the spring season with night temperatures below zero degrees of Celsius, the better the quality and bigger the harvest of birch sap. Just as with wines, optimal climate conditions will lead to higher quantities of active ingredients, like sugars, and hence higher activity for the skin.
Sustainable harvesting
We only support sustainable harvesting methods. Our birch sap is tapped by hand – the same way it has been done for centuries. We don’t force the sap out of trees by using vacuum pumps. We use the same tree for tapping only every other year. In this way we don’t disturb the “trees own ecosystem”.
Birch trees are one of the most common indigenous tree species in Finland. Birch is not only known for timber, but it is also important in Finnish mythology and as a national symbol. Over 97% of Finnish forests could be certified as organic according to Finnish forest association. Nordic Beauty Birch Sap obtains an organic certificate every year, as it is a collection of wild edible product.
Pure natural cosmetic raw material
Birch sap is a transparent or a slightly opalescent fluid. It tastes similar to water and is slightly sweetish. Birch sap contains only naturally occurring antioxidants, electrolytes, trace minerals, fructose, glucose, sucrose and vitamin C.
Nordic Beauty Birch Sap is bioactive transparent plant based water with incredible benefits to skin care and hair care. It hydrates and rejuvenates the skin and improves skin elasticity and cell renewal*. It is also ideal to treat sensitive scalp and reinforce damaged hair with its high sugar level. Birch Sap can also be combined with Nordic Beauty Birch Leaf extract to maximize the nutrients based on birch tree.
Typical use level is 10 – 85% in emulsions, serums, lotions, shampoos and conditioners.
Nordic Beauty Finlandia® products are Cosmos friendly natural raw materials and can be produced with the preservative system by customer’s choice.
Nordic Beauty Birch Sap (INCI: Betula Alba Juice) is a fundamental raw material also in other Nordic Beauty Finlandia® products. All extracts are made by using Birch Sap as a solvent, which is physically classified as natural deep eutectic solvent (NADES). Many metabolites are dissolved by 10-100 times better in NADES than in water or lipids.
